A traditional South American yerba mate recipe combining dried leaves with hot water for a clean, natural energy boost.

  • Total Time: 12 minutes
  • Yield: 1-2 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 tablespoons Dried Yerba Mate Leaves
  • 810 ounces Hot Water (160-180°F / 70-80°C)
  • 1 tablespoon Honey (Optional)
  • ½ tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice (Optional)
  • 34 leaves Fresh Mint Leaves (Optional)
  • 1 small piece Cinnamon Stick (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat filtered water to 160-180°F (70-80°C) to prevent over-extraction.
  2. Measure 1-2 tablespoons of dried yerba mate leaves into a ceramic or glass cup.
  3. Pour the hot water slowly over the leaves and allow to steep for 5-7 minutes without disturbing.
  4. Strain the leaves carefully through a fine-mesh sieve into your serving cup.
  5. Add optional honey, lemon juice, mint, or a cinnamon stick to taste, stir gently, and serve.

Notes

Use water between 160-180°F to prevent bitter, astringent flavors. You can refresh your yerba mate recipe by re-steeping the same leaves with fresh hot water after consuming the first infusion.
